Business-News, Tax expenses to claim, Tax rebate for employed -
Last year alone, HM Revenue & Customs closed down more than 500 fraudulent websites which had promised tax payers a substantial tax rebate in exchange for their personal, credit card and bank details.
The websites had been using a series of emails to attract tax payers to a clone of HMRC’s genuine website to trick them in to submitting their details. Fraudsters then try to take money from the account using the details provided
It should be noted that HMRC will only inform an individual of their tax refund by post and will not use emails or telephone calls as a means on contact. As a result HMRC advise customers the following:
- To check the advice published at the following link to see if the email they have received is listed: Security – HMRC website
- To ensure that they forward any suspicious emails to HMRC and then remove the email from their computer
- To refrain from opening any attachments or links contained in suspicious emails
The success of the scam may be due to the complicating and often time consuming process of applying for a tax rebate, resulting in many people searching the internet for websites offering an easier solution.
Therefore it is important that if you wish to use an agency to help you claim your tax rebate, you use a reputable company such as ourselves, who are registered by HMRC.
